Review of Java Programming Language
Installation of J2SE and Eclipse   Review of the XML Markup Language and common XML Parsers. Installation of the Android Toolkit
 
Chapter 2
Create an Android application and review use of the Debug perspective in Eclipse
 
Chapter 3
Examine the Debug perspective in Eclipse at length  Study breakpoints, the Logcat panel, etc.
Examine the main.xml and AndroidManifest.xml created in the first application
Add and configure some simple controls.
 
Chapter 4
Create new applications using several available user controls
Work in different fonts, colors, and the different events and listeners
 
Chapter 5
Add graphics to applications, both user-created using the various "draw" methods
 
Chapter 6
GPS and Google Maps. (This is a difficult topic and involves many classes, application settings, and emulator modifications. Allow yourself an additional week. Don't be afraid to ask questions!)
 
Chapter 7
Advanced user controls, multi-screen applications, and dialog boxes
 
Chapter 8
Applications using stored images. Time permitting, you may want to spend time with the device's camera feature
 
Chapter 9
Creating applications using stored text and XML files. Examine how to parse stored and streaming XML files. Create a simple application using a SQLite data table
 
 
If you want, you might continue with the use of SQLite data tables and binding user controls to tables. This is not covered in the text
 
Chapter 10
Client-server applications. Networking using WiFi and carrier data plans
 
Chapter 11
Take a look at the application publishing process. There are free App markets such as Andapponline.com. You can use one of these to bundle, sign, and Zipalign applications. You would also create supporting graphics and publish any of your applications from the class
